Occasional Pot Usage Risky for College Students

A roadside breathalyzer for illegal drugs is almost a reality thanks to studies by Swedish scientists. Scientists have been able to identify 12 substances in the breath of at least 40 patients who had used drugs within the previous 24 hours while recovering at a drug emergency clinic. The study confirms that many drugs from a variety of categories including prescription drugs, cocaine and marijuana can be detected in a person’s breath. The number of deaths due to drug overdose has increased over the last 11 years according to a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report. From 2009 to 2010, drug related deaths rose four percent. In 2010, emergency rooms tended to more than 11,400 cases of health complications related to the use of synthetic pot. Residential Program Attends a Camping Retreat

This last weekend Sober College men’s residential program had a chance to experience a different type of Alcohol Anonymous meeting. Our men’s program traveled to a sober men’s retreat and participated in their recovery by fellowshipping with other sober young people and attending a 12-step speaker meeting.
