Another Student Dies In Birthday Alcohol Binge The death of Mason Sumnicht, a student of Chico State University, is just one of the thousands of college fatalities caused by drinking too much alcohol. After consuming 21 shots to celebrate his 21st birthday on November 4th 2012, the undergraduate suffered extreme alcohol poisoning resulting in permanent brain damage. He was taken off life support after 11 days in the hospital. Sumnicht was believed to have been pledging the Sigma Pi fraternity.
