The students of Sober College young adult rehab recently participated in the San Fernando Valley Alcoholics Anonymous Convention. This event provided them with an opportunity to network with other members of AA and to socialize in an alcohol-free environment. Not only did students attend marathon meetings but they also enjoyed themselves at the convention dances. During Christmas break at Sober College, young adult drug rehab center, students traveled to the L.A. Food Bank to be of service to their community  and helped sort food for the families that needed food during the holiday season. Young adult in early sobriety are learning about the emotional benefits that being of service can have on an individual. Marijuana Abuse Linked to Decrease in IQ

A 38–year NIH–funded study, published this year in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, showed that people who used cannabis heavily in their teens and continued through adulthood showed a significant drop in IQ between the ages of 13 and 38—an average of eight points for those who met criteria for cannabis dependence. Those who used marijuana heavily before age 18 (when the brain is still developing) showed impaired mental abilities even after they quit taking the drug. There is no denying the dangerous side effects of young adult drug abuse. Experiential Therapy Treatment

This past week, Sober College headed out to Universal City Walk to have therapy at 600mph. The experiential therapy treatment program at Sober College was designed to create situations where student can learn and put therapy tools to the test. Activities like surfing, indoor skydiving, and trapeze therapy get students out of their comfort zone and out of the therapy office. Young Adults and Synthetic Drugs

Some young adults seem to think it is perfectly fine to put synthetic drugs in their bodies, not really knowing what the effect will be. Possibly they use them to try to get a high similar to marijuana. Many are lured by the marketing which states that these products are “not for human consumption” and they create a “legal high.” After all, many of these products, such as “Spice,” “K2,” and others which are basically artificial marijuana, are sold in convenience stores, head shops and gas stations around the country.
