Drug Rehab Program Confronts Young Adult Drug Abuse

Drug Rehab Program

Last night I heard a speaker at Alcoholics Anonymous meeting who is on a hit television show, that I am sure many of you have seen or heard of, about young adults suffering from addiction. Her share was relatable and I was able to connect with it in many ways. She provided two interesting facts during her share that I thought were important: 7,000 14-26 year-olds die every month from pill overdoses and 2,000 14-21 year-olds try prescription drugs for the first time every day…. Sober College has given me Continue Reading »

It’s dangerous enough to have a substance abuse issue but many young adults also face other mental health conditions. In fact in most cases, multiple diagnosis are the expectation rather than the exception. Not only do these so-called co-occurring disorders make daily life incredible difficult, but they also can complicate treatment and recovery. Studies show that one-quarter of patients entering treatment for substance abuse will meet the criteria for eating disorders. Eating disorders and substance abuse go hand in hand so frequently. Through drugs and alcohol and eating disorders, young Continue Reading »

If you were to traverse the world in a time machine, chances are, nearly every single culture you visited would be using opium. The opium poppy’s cultivation and use dates back to the Stone Age, where ancient cultures recognized the medicinal properties of the plant and began using it as a painkilling agent. One might imagine that since its inception as a medical tool, opium, and its active ingredients, morphine and codeine have also Continue Reading »
