Young Adult Treatment Attracts Self Happiness

During drug treatment it is important for students to register and confront behavioral problems that could potentially cause relapse. The goal is to acknowledge these behaviors and work to change them. “This has helped me be able to be comfortable with myself and not have to rely on how I act and other people’s reactions to be happy” says one Sober College Student. Sober College young adult treatment program provides students with individual therapy sessions, a counselor and weekly groups in order to process their emotional growth. Drug Rehab Program Confronts Young Adult Drug Abuse

Drug Rehab Program

Last night I heard a speaker at Alcoholics Anonymous meeting who is on a hit television show, that I am sure many of you have seen or heard of, about young adults suffering from addiction. Her share was relatable and I was able to connect with it in many ways. She provided two interesting facts during her share that I thought were important: 7,000 14-26 year-olds die every month from pill overdoses and 2,000 14-21 year-olds try prescription drugs for the first time every day…. Sober College has given me Continue Reading »

The students of Sober College young adult rehab recently participated in the San Fernando Valley Alcoholics Anonymous Convention. This event provided them with an opportunity to network with other members of AA and to socialize in an alcohol-free environment. Not only did students attend marathon meetings but they also enjoyed themselves at the convention dances. Something as simple as a sober dance impacts Sober College students because it shows that they can have fun without substance abuse. Aside from the sober dances, students were able to fellowship in an environment Continue Reading »

Young Adult Treatment and Cocaine Addiction

Cocaine Treatment

Cocaine addiction has been researched by many people in the medical field. The University of Cambridge has found a difference between recreational cocaine users, and cocaine addicts. Dr Karen Ersche and her team acquired results of brain scan tests that indicates recreational users have a larger “frontal lobe” in the brain which serves as the decision and self-control center. Having a difference in their brain structure shows that cocaine addicts are not at fault for their use and proves that it is a “disease”. Dr. Ersche says that “…preventative strategies might Continue Reading »

Equine Therapy in Young Adult Treatment

Sober College offers equine therapy as part of their young adult treatment program. Equine therapy uses horses to help students learn about and understand their emotions. Horses are able to sense a humans emotions in a way other humans cannot. If someone is nervous, anxious, or frustrated the horse will know even if the young adult seems calm and collected. Sober College uses equine therapy because of the benefits it has on young adults in recovery. It is an important part of the recovery process at Sober College because it shows the Continue Reading »

College Campus Adderall Abuse

Adderall Abuse

Adderall, a prescription drug used to help people with attention deficit disorder or ADD, has become a staple in the college drug abuse epidemic.  In 2011, 8.3% of college students admitted using it for non-medical purposes according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. That’s about twice the percentage of people of college age who are not in school. Adderall has a calming effect for people with ADD or ADHD, but because it contains amphetamines, people without these disorders experienced increased amounts of energy and attention, and a Continue Reading »

Like other colleges, the Sober College Continue Reading »
