The students of Sober College young adult rehab recently participated in the San Fernando Valley Alcoholics Anonymous Convention. This event provided them with an opportunity to network with other members of AA and to socialize in an alcohol-free environment. Not only did students attend marathon meetings but they also enjoyed themselves at the convention dances. Marijuana Abuse Linked to Decrease in IQ

A 38–year NIH–funded study, published this year in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, showed that people who used cannabis heavily in their teens and continued through adulthood showed a significant drop in IQ between the ages of 13 and 38—an average of eight points for those who met criteria for cannabis dependence. Those who used marijuana heavily before age 18 (when the brain is still developing) showed impaired mental abilities even after they quit taking the drug. Adderall, a prescription drug used to help people with attention deficit disorder or ADD, has become a staple in the college drug abuse epidemic.  In 2011, 8.3% of college students admitted using it for non-medical purposes according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. That’s about twice the percentage of people of college age who are not in school.
