College Campus Adderall Abuse

Adderall Abuse

Adderall, a prescription drug used to help people with attention deficit disorder or ADD, has become a staple in the college drug abuse epidemic.  In 2011, 8.3% of college students admitted using it for non-medical purposes according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. That’s about twice the percentage of people of college age who are not in school. Adderall has a calming effect for people with ADD or ADHD, but because it contains amphetamines, people without these disorders experienced increased amounts of energy and attention, and a Continue Reading »

Building a Community of Sober Young Adults

This past week our students and staff took part in Community Day, where both staff and students participated in experiential therapy and bonding activities, designed to develop trust and camaraderie within the young adult community at Sober College. Sober College’s treatment program requires a certain level of trust between students, and between students and their staff.  Getting to know each other during activities, like those at Community Day, helps ensure that the level of trust and communication within the Sober College community can be fostered. Young Adults and Synthetic Drugs

Some young adults seem to think it is perfectly fine to put synthetic drugs in their bodies, not really knowing what the effect will be. Possibly they use them to try to get a high similar to marijuana. Many are lured by the marketing which states that these products are “not for human consumption” and they create a “legal high.” After all, many of these products, such as “Spice,” “K2,” and others which are basically artificial marijuana, are sold in convenience stores, head shops and gas stations around the country. Fitness and Substance Abuse Treatment

Studies reveal that young adults who engage in regular exercise are less likely to abuse drugs and alcohol. These new studies revealed that exercises reduce self-administration as well as protective effects in substance abuse treatment. As a whole these studies have provided convincing evidence to support the development of exercise-based interventions to reduce compulsive patterns of drug intake in clinical and at-risk populations. At Sober College, substance abuse treatment, we believe in fitness as a core competency to maintaining long-term sobriety for young adults. Our students come in from colleges Continue Reading »

That includes around 2 million women who abuse cocaine, 6 million who abuse marijuana, and 4 million who abuse prescription medications. For women, addiction can often be directly related to a sexual Continue Reading »

Women Addiction Treatment

Women, being the fastest growing segment of substance abusers in the United States, are currently estimated as 2.7 million substance abusers. According the National Institute on Drug Abuse, doctors are prescribing twice as many psychotropic medications for women as they do for men. Why are more women struggling with drug addictions? Ketamine Abuse

Ketamine, K, or Special K, is a potent dissociative drug that is most commonly used as a cat tranquilizer, and has been making quite a stir in the health and wellness community. Ketamine use has been rapidly growing in the past few years, and is known to be highly addictive. One Sober College resident, and former drug abuser who has used Continue Reading »
