Post Wilderness
Are you in need of a structured sober environment for your son or daughter to help them expand upon what they learned in wilderness program?
Helping Young Adults Gain the Tools They Need Succeed After Treatment
Sober College offers young adults the opportunity to build upon the foundation of sobriety and self-awareness they gained while in a wilderness treatment program, while also teaching them life skills to help them succeed in life after treatment. We have created a unique environment that helps young adults apply the life lessons learned in wilderness to academics, and other real world situations. Wilderness is often a short, intense, and effective experience, but due to recent studies by the National Institutes of Health, long-term treatment is necessary for those struggling to recover from addiction. Sober College is effective as a long-term transitional treatment option for those young adult exiting wilderness and integrating back into normal life.
The more urban setting of Sober College helps students that come from wilderness treatment acclimate to society, and lessens the culture shock that can take place when a student goes directly from Wilderness back home.
Offering a Young Adult Specific Extended Care Program
Like most wilderness programs, Sober College recognizes that drugs and alcohol have many negative effects on family relationships. While in the wilderness, family workshops begin to help families heal from the traumatic experience of living with a son or daughter doing drugs and drinking. At Sober College we help to heal the family structure as well, and offer a Family Weekend workshop that continues this process, and weekly calls from staff that are in daily contact with the student.
“I came to Sober College from a wilderness program. Wilderness taught me so much about myself, and Sober College has allowed me to continue to grow, and put to work the things that I learned in wilderness.”
- Andrew W., Sober College Student
