This interactive map is designed to give you a closer look at the Sober College Community at large. Sober College students travel throughout the greater Los Angeles Area on a regular basis to participate in different therapeutic, educational and just plain fun activities. If you click on the talk bubbles throughout the map a descriptions and pictures will appear above the map. The pictures can be enlarged by clicking on them as well.
Friar House – Men’s Primary Program
Friar and Oxnard are the two men’s primary houses. Friar is spacious and sits on a large plot of land in a quiet suburban neighborhood in Woodland Hills. Its location offers the privacy our residents need to work on themselves and grow as sober individuals. Friar House residents are able to build a close-knit support community within the larger Sober College community.
Hiking Trials
The fitness department often takes Sober College students on hikes, bike rides and runs in the numerous national and state parks that surround the Sober College campus. One of their favorite hikes takes place in the Malibu Canyon State Park with a gorgeous view of the Pacific Ocean.
Equine Therapy
Equine Therapy is part of Sober College’s Emotional Intelligence Program. Equine Therapy give students the opportunity to discover parts of their inner selves they may not have known existed. Sober College been working with InBalance Ranch for over six years because the students achieve wonderful results and enjoy the nurturing and productive atmosphere.
Woodbury University
Woodbury is a WASC accredited institution located in Burbank, California. The Sober College and Woodbury University partnership has helped hundreds of students continue gaining college credit while in residential treatment at Sober College. Sober College offers five Woodbury University courses on-site.
Surf Therapy
Sober College utilizes both traditional and non-traditional forms of therapy to help young adults recover from addiction. The Experiential Therapy Program incorporates different challenging activities that help students get in touch with their emotions. Surf Therapy does just this. Students begin their lesson practice paddling on the beach, and end standing up on their boards in the water.
Oxnard House – Men’s Primary Program
Friar and Oxnard are home to our men’s primary program. Oxnard House is large, newly renovated, and has a large back yard equipped with basketball hoop and ping pong table. Housemates are able to build close knit relationships with each other within in the larger SC Community. Our residents are given all the tools, guidance and amenities they need to help them lead strong successful sober lives.
Learning Center
The Learning Center is where all classes take place at Sober College, as well as community meeting, individual and group therapy, and all administrative functions. The Learning Center has a recoding, art, and film studios to help the rsidents not only learn in traditoin classroom settings, but also explore their creativity.
Indoor Skydiving
The students go indoor skydiving at iFly Hollywood on Universal City Walk as part of the experiential therapy program. The state of the art wind tunnel allows students to feel what it is like to jump out a plane and free fall to the ground, and all the emotions that go with it. People from all over southern California come to iFly to experience the thrill of skydiving in a safe and fun environment.
Melvin House
Melvin House is the Women’s House at Sober College. The property is large and spacious, but still quaint enough to foster a close community. The house has a fire pit and large barbeque area that is often used to cook dinners. The house site in a very suburban and tree filled area of Woodland Hills.
Pierce College
Many Sober College attend Pierce College during their stay becuase of its amazing educational oppurtunities, and close proximity to Sober College. Pierce College is apart of of the Los Angeles Community College system, and all of the credits earned there are highly transerable to any major educational institution.
Oakwood Apartments
Oakwood Apartments by Archstone are an absolutely gorgeous apartment complex that residents have the oppurtunity to live in with other Sober College after their stay in the primary treatment house. The apartments offer residents more freedom, but remain a very structured environment with a high level of accountability
