If you’ve been searching for CCAPP, NAADAC and IC&RC-approved substance abuse certification classes, Sober College School of Addiction Studies might be a perfect fit. In just six months, you can complete all the coursework needed to become a Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor (CADC).
What Is A CADC?
A CADC is a person that has completed the necessary substance abuse certification coursework and training needed to become a certified counselor. CADCs work with clients as counselors, recovery coaches, case managers and more, helping people through all the stages of recovery.
We can help students who wish to become a CADC-I or CADC-II complete all of their coursework and provide test prep for the IC&RC exam, which all CADCs must pass in order to attain certification.
The main difference between a CADC-I and CADC-II is the hours of supervised work required to earn the certification. Both certifications require a total of 315 hours of education as well completing 255 internship/practicum hours and you also must pass the IC&RC exam.
However, a CADC-I only needs between 2,080 hours to 3,000 hours of supervised work experience (depending on education level), while a CADC-II must complete 6,000 hours of supervised work experience. Keep in mind that all of this work is paid work and you will be helping others throughout the process, but you are still required to work under a supervisor.
The Curriculum
During your time at Sober College, you will be taking six academic courses with topics ranging from case management to the law and ethics related to the profession. Each course will be led by a highly qualified instructor with real-life experience in our industry.
In addition to these six classes, there will be two practicums. The first practicum will help you get your feet wet in the counseling world, and you will be supervised by a qualified instructor. The second practicum also is supervised, but it’s a bit more comprehensive and includes 255 hours of practical experiences within 12 core functions or tasks that all drug and alcohol counselors are expected to complete.

Beyond California
Our substance abuse certification courses are NAADAC-approved and IC&RC-approved, as well, and our programs are eligible to be transferred between jurisdictions that use IC&RC products.
