If you’ve ever dreamed of a career where you could truly help others, working as a certified drug and alcohol counselor (CADC) might be a great fit for you. At Sober College of Addiction Studies, we can help you take the first steps toward earning your CADC certification. Here are a few quick facts about our addiction studies program.
1. We Offer High-Quality Curriculum
While starting a new career might seem a bit intimidating at Sober College for Addiction Studies, we make it easy for students to complete their educational units and our curriculum will fully prepare you for your new career as a substance abuse counselor.
Our curriculum covers everything you need to know to pass the IC&RC Alcohol & Drug Counselor exam, and we cover all aspects of the 12 Core Functions of Addiction Counseling. Additionally, during your two practicum experiences, you will gain first-hand experience dealing with all 12 Core Functions, such as learning intake procedures, treatment planning, counseling, assessment, crisis intervention and more.
2. Our Curriculum Is Approved Throughout The United States
Sober College is based in California and offers a CCAPP-approved curriculum; however, our curriculum also is NAADAC-approved and IC&RC-approved, which means that virtually any student in the United States can attend Sober College and have the peace of mind that their educational units will be accepted by their state credentialing board.
While we talk a lot about providing education for those wishing to become a CADC, this job title also is known as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or ADC, and by other names, as well, depending on your state. While the names might differ, the educational requirements for these addiction counselors are the same and we can provide you with a quality addiction studies curriculum in every state except Montana, North Dakota and Alaska.
3. Our Program Can Be Completed Online
While online education has boomed in the last few years, especially during the pandemic, Sober College was already a leading provider of online education. We have been offering quality online education for years, which is a highly convenient option for working adults. If you’ve been wanting to earn your CADC certification online, Sober College can be your best option.
4. Support Is Always Available
Our experienced instructors are available to assist students daily. Each instructor can be reached via email 24/7 with a 24-hour maximum turnaround time for an email response. Phone appointments also are available, and we offer a “General Questions” discussion forum on Moodle.
5. Your Studies Can Be Completed In 6 Months
At some schools, it can take a year or even several years to complete an addiction studies program, but our coursework can be completed in just six months. Once you complete your coursework, you will be able to get started working toward the completion of your supervised work experience hours, which vary based on the type of CADC certification you wish to earn.
For instance, a CADC-I must complete 3,000 hours of supervised work experience or 2,080 hours if the candidate has earned an associate degree in behavioral science or an allied mental health profession.
A CADC-II must complete 6,000 hours of supervised work experience, regardless of any earned college degrees. A CADC-III must complete 4,000 hours, but also must have earned a bachelor’s degree. The educational requirements (315 hours) and number of practicum hours (255 hours) is the same for all three levels of CADC.
It is important to note that supervised work experience is paid work, and, in some cases, previous work at an addiction treatment facility (either paid or volunteer) work sometimes can be counted toward the total number of required supervised work experience hours.
6. We Offer Rolling Admissions
With many colleges, you have to apply at certain times of the year and wait for specific dates when a semester or trimester begins or ends. At Sober College, you can get started at any time, which truly allows you to jumpstart into your new career as an addiction counselor.
7. Our Program Is Affordable With No Hidden Fees
Our program has a total tuition cost of just $2,500, which includes all class materials except for books, which cost about $300-$500 total. This is far more affordable than many other addiction studies programs, and while we do not accept financial aid, we are able to work with students on financing.
