Substance Abuse Counseling

There are numerous people who play a vital role in the journey through recovery. Those in treatment rely on their friends and loved ones for support in addition to the expertise of medical professionals, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other treatment staff. Perhaps the most vital member of the treatment team is the substance abuse counselor. …Read More

Countless people around the globe struggle with addiction. The conversation surrounding addiction and treatment has evolved over time, and people are starting to treat it as a disease rather than a choice and a lack of motivation to change. With this change in definition, addiction treatment continues to evolve to address the changing needs of clients over time. Every day, new substances are created and abused, each coming with their own set of side effects and impacts on communities. There are many reasons why a person relies on drugs or alcohol—they may have poor coping skills, perhaps they are trying to escape reality, or it could be something else altogether. Regardless of what has led a person down the path of dependency and addiction, uncovering the underlying influences and issues that contribute to negative behaviors is vital in combating addiction.

Substance abuse counseling is constantly changing. Each client has unique needs and their individual experiences, histories, and genetic predispositions all play a unique role in their recovery. Substance abuse counselors are vital components of treatment teams, working directly with clients to help them overcome their dependencies through counseling and therapy.

The stories of current and former substance abuse counselors are shared in this section, shedding light on the experiences of those who work closely with those in treatment. Although times can be challenging and obstacles may be difficult to overcome, the successes achieved in this field are incredibly rewarding and life-changing. Show Less.
