The California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP) is an organization that wears many hats. If you are an addiction professional or working to become an addiction professional, we highly recommend that you consider CCAPP registration.
Who Should Register?
In general, if you are an addiction professional in California, it is highly recommended that you join this organization and complete CCAPP registration. Organizations also can apply for Program Membership; this includes treatment facilities, schools and other organizations that relate to addiction treatment-related professions.
There are two good reasons to complete your CCAPP registration. One, this is a respected organization and becoming a member is sign of your high level of professionalism and commitment to your industry.
Second, there are many benefits associated with becoming a CCAPP member. For programs, benefits include group rates for health, dental and vision insurance plans. Prepaid legal plans also are available at discounted rates, and there are even some car rental discounts available.
The CCAPP also will send out two complimentary e-blasts each year regarding your organization and this can be a great way to spread a message about current or upcoming programs or events or just to advertise your program.
Individuals also can obtain group rates for insurance, prepaid legal plans and car rental discounts and low-cost professional liability insurance also is available for individual members.
Individuals also enjoy discounted admission to CCAPP’s annual conferences, where you can earn continuing education hours. The California Addiction Conference is held each year in Southern California. The Addiction Leadership Conference is held each year in Northern California and the Multicultural Conference is held in Central California.
Both individuals and program members will receive a free subscription to Counselor Magazine and the CCAPP Weekly Dispatch, which is an e-zine created just for members. The conferences, magazine and e-zine can be fantastic resources for any addiction professional, but especially for those just getting started in the profession.
The CCAPP also acts as advocates for addiction professionals and well as those suffering from addiction and in recovery. They work to protect the interests of addiction professionals at the state and national levels.
Can Students Sign Up?
As soon as you’ve earn your Registered Alcohol Drug Technician (RADT) credential, you can complete CCAPP registration. Becoming a RADT is the first step in the process of becoming a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADC).
Only nine hours of orientation must be completed in order to earn a RADT I credential. This actually can prepare you to work as a RADT in a treatment facility, and there are many jobs available for RADTs.
Of course, in California, one cannot stay a RADT forever. You must complete your CADC education within five years or you no longer will be able to keep practicing in substance abuse treatment.
At any rate, as soon as you have earned your RADT I or RADT II credential, you can complete CCAPP registration if you would like to. It’s not required, but it can give you an edge over other job candidates and you’ll enjoy all the benefits CCAPP membership provides.
