Instructor FAQs
[accordion class=”green-left large” clicktoclose=”true”][accordion-item tag=”h2″ title=”1. What does new instructor training entail?”]New Instructor Training is a combination of SCSAS instructor expectations, best practices for teaching, and effectively using Moodle (our online learning platform). Our one week training program is delivered asynchronously online, using Moodle. Your online training facilitator will provide guidance and feedback in order to acclimatize you to the SCSAS model and philosophy. The time commitment for prospective instructors is about 7-9 hours. Training is unpaid. Prospective instructors are considered trainees until they have successfully completed the training and are added to our instructor roster. New instructor training is required for all SCSAS instructors. This training is the final step of the recruitment process that ensures all of our instructors are competent in both teaching and management of the online and hybrid classroom. [/accordion-item][accordion-item tag=”h2″ title=”2. What teaching assignments are required?”]Teaching assignments depend on both student enrollment and program needs. Teaching assignments may be temporary, part-time, or as needed. We are unable to guarantee permanent/reoccurring teaching assignments.
When scheduling for an upcoming course, you will be contact via email with a teaching assignment offer with a specified date by which you must respond. If we do not receive your response before the date specified, the course will be offered to another instructor.[/accordion-item][accordion-item tag=”h2″ title=”3. How are courses structured?“]All SCSAS courses are pre-designed so instructors can focus their time and energy on student engagement and success. We rely on our expert instructors to bring our courses to life by sharing their experiences, promoting fruitful discussion, and linking theory to practice.
Instructors will grade short papers and facilitate discussions. All quizzes and exams are online and are automatically recoded in the student grade book.
Each course is one month in length and has about 15 to 25 students, with a cap of 27 students. We require at least 6 students for a class to run. Online students may be from different states, so some time considerations may be necessary. [/accordion-item][accordion-item tag=”h2” title=”4. What are instructor expectations?”]SCSAS instructors are essential to student success in each course that they teach. It is crucial that our instructors have a desire to assist each student in reaching their goal of program completion. Instructors are expected to connect with each student, giving individualized feedback and opportunities for growth. At times it is necessary to contact students over the phone, meet with them individually, and work as a team with student services staff to ensure each student is well-supported throughout the program. Instructors are also required to respond to student inquiries within 24 hours.[/accordion-item][/accordion]
