What is GHB?
Gamma-Hydro Butyric acid (GHB) was a drug that is widely available at health food stores in the United States. In the beginning, it was being used by the body builders, for building muscles and losing fat. But after some researches, the Food and Drug Administration banned the use of GHB.
GHB could be administered only under the supervision of a registered medical advisor because it has severe side effects including euphoria and sedation. Although it is a banned drug, it is secretly manufactured and consumed. It is a hazardous drug and is harmful to everyone, but especially young adults.
Danger of GHB Drug Addiction
Although club drugs and recreational drugs are illegal in the US, amidst the loud music and the high-tech entertainment, people still use them. These youth also resort to taking drugs such as liquid ecstacy, liquid x, at such parties. However, the GHB drug attracts young people because it is less expensive, produces extra stamina, and intoxicating highs. They are often slyly mixed with other drinks, without the knowledge of the person consuming it.

Rohypnol is a type of GHB that has created grave problems in young lives, and is called the “Date Rape Drug.” It is colorless and mixes easily with any drink. If this drug is taken an individual becomes weak and cannot resist sexual assault. If it is mixed with alcohol, or another depressant, it may be fatal.
Xyrem is a prescribed drug mainly used for the treatment of narcolepsy, to reduce daytime sleepiness, and muscle attacks. If it is consumed at night it works well in the morning. This GHB drug should be sparingly used, and should be administered strictly under medical guidance because it may lead to physical or psychological dependence. If it is sold without a valid prescription, one is liable to go to jail.
Society is aware of these killer drugs. What should be done to stop this menace and save our young adults from going into coma or facing death? The treatment for GHB addiction should involve detoxification and strong measures should be taken to stop the manufacturing of GHB.
