Phencyclidine which is commonly known as PCP is a deadly recreational drug. When abused, PCP effects produce feelings of detachment from one’s body and surroundings, along with distorted perceptions of sight, sound and time.
PCP has many street names, such as angel dust. This particular disassociative drug was initially used as an anesthetic, and also has the ability to produce hallucinations. This disassociative drug was primarily developed for human use, but never got approved. However, now it is used in veterinary sciences.
About PCP and PCP Effects
In the beginning, PCP used to be taken as pills, but it failed to produce an instant high, as desired by its users. Later another form of PCP was introduced in the market, called angel dust. When smoked or snorted, this powdered form of PCP produced intense instant effects. PCP effects depend on the level of its dosage. A low dose can cause feelings of euphoria and disassociation. Other PCP effects include shallow breathing, increased heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature. High doses cause nausea, and low perception of pain. The effects of a higher dose of PCP can sometimes be fatal and can cause muscle contraction to an extent that bones fracture, and kidney damage can occur. Other effects of this deadly drug may include violent behavior, suicidal tendency, and hallucinations.

The abuse of this particular drug is most commonly seen in young adults in high school or college. In fact, studies show that at least 3.2 percent of young adults have used PCP at least once. But lifetime use of this drug is seen amongst the people belonging to the age group of 18 to 36 years. PCP has lost its popularity in recent years because people have become fond of other types of hallucinogenic drugs.
Though each user reacts differently, PCP has some common side effects. A low dose can cause numbness in the limbs, blank stares, and loss of co-ordination. When a higher dosage of PCP is taken it can lead to coma or sudden death.
